Who has this kind of time?
Posted (Patrick) in Celebrety, General, Music, Television on March-9-2010

If given the chance to redesign our currency, not change the numbers, just change the faces, who faces would we use. Presidents have been the face we see most often, with a few important leaders such as Ben Franklin. Some people have redesigned money with pop culture faces and the ones that make me laugh the most are these.

Yep, that’s the Burger King on the $1 bill, Michael instead of Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, and Homer Simpson gracing the $50 bill.  I think the Michael Jackson bit is pretty funny, and with the way Burger King and McDonalds adertise their dollar menu it only seems natural. Homer just makes me laugh, simply put.

Alright, this is something to smile about
Posted (Patrick) in General on March-8-2010

I know most of you probably have issues with the way the government is run, and I’m not one for discussing politics too often; my mom taught me it was always a guaranteed argument/fight, but this needs to be brought out. There is a representative from Arizona who is trying to push a bill through Congress that will reduce representative salaries by 5 percent. Now the average representative earns $174,000, so a 5% cut brings the salary down to $165,300. Now, that’s not too bad. But guess what, some representatives are fighting it. Imagine that, people who can control their own salaries not wanting to take a voluntary paycut. It must be nice to have that kind of say in your pay. Don’t you wish you did? Why not write your federal representative and ask them how they plan to vote on this one?

Selection Sunday
Posted (Patrick) in Television on March-5-2010

With Selection Sunday about a week away, I’m already looking forward to the tournament. My only problem is I will be traveling on Selection Sunday, but I love to watch this as it happens. I’ve got my eye out for live video streaming services that will let me follow the drama of who gets selected and who gets snubbed.

March Madness is right around the corner
Posted (Patrick) in Playoffs on March-3-2010

Can you feel it? That time of year when office pools and college basketball take center stage? The NCAA tournament is almost here. Selection Sunday is March 14, just a short week and a half away. Then, let the brackets start flying. I’ll probably post my bracket picks and progress as we head for the Final Four.

Leno’s return
Posted (Patrick) in Television on March-2-2010

Hey, did anyone watch the Tonight Show last night? I forgot to watch and see how Leno fared after the whole fiasco before the Olympics started. How did he look? Did he seem comfortable? I read a quick story that only mentioned a couple of his monologue jokes and a few audience members who were already fans. Anybody got details?

Simon Cowell is engaged
Posted (Patrick) in Celebrety, Television on March-1-2010

I have one thing to ask. How intense were those dates? Was there a phone number to call and cast a vote?  What number was she wearing? Read more details here.

Yikes
Posted (Patrick) in Television on February-24-2010

I saw the replay of the speed skater disqualification from the marathon event.  If you didn’t see it, basically, the skater’s coach told him to change lanes, the skater complied, which led to a rule violation and a disqualification.  Now, that’s bad enough, but when you add the fact that this particular skater was favored to win the gold, had it locked up, and lost it because of his coach’s error, that makes it even worse.  Ouch!

Bonds, James Bonds
Posted (Patrick) in Being a dude, Movies on February-23-2010

Ok, this was real fun to see, especially if you’re a fan of the 007 series. Fox News, in a nod to Conan O’Brien, mashed celebrity and politicin photos to see what they would look like as one person. Some had some comical results, but the coolest one was the Bond montage. They took different actos who have played the title role and meshed them into the ultimate 007. The fun part is in figuring out who they used. There have been so many, I don’t think they were able to use a feature from every actor.

The Skeleton is aptly named
Posted (Patrick) in Television on February-22-2010

I watched the Skeleton Friday night for the first time and I had one reaction: ARE YOU SERIOUS? While the luge is bad enough, and the tragedy at the beginning of the games should attest to the events inherent danger, the skeleton is worse. Men and women train to go head first down a luge run on a sled that lies underneath them and the only methods of turning are their legs and body weight. This is a disaster waiting to happen that even hurts to watch.

Olympic update #3
Posted (Patrick) in Television on February-19-2010

I’m not a big fan of figure skating, but this is worth mentioning. Evan Lyseck became the first American male to win the gold since Brian Boitano in 1988.  That’s over 20 years since the US took the gold in Mens figure skating.  Congratulation need to got out to Evan, especially since Yevgeny Plushenko came out of retirement to win a second straight gold. Get Evan a pair of men’s sunglasses cause his future looks real bright.
