And it continues…
Posted (admin) in General on January-29-2010

I think this is a great clip. Let me set it up for you. Jimmy Kimmel, who has a late night talk show on ABC was asked to go on Jay Leno’s primetime show for a quick interview segment. One of the questions Leno asked was the biggest prank Kimmel ever pulled. Kimmel immediately said he promised to give another guy his show and promptly takes it back. This was a classic zinger aimed directly at Leno. I think Kimmel is somewhat entertaining, and this is a great jab at the whole fiasco. So, there’s the setup, now watch the video here.

I wish I could do this
Posted (admin) in Being a dude, Movies on January-27-2010

For those of you that don’t know what this is, this is called parkour. Parkour is also known as free running. Basically, you use the evironment and fluid body movement to move from point A to point B as fluidly as possible. It’s not technically a sport, but the training you need is very sport-like. I just like the idea of running and no obstacle slows you down for even a second. The guy in this video is one of the first practitioners of parkour, so you know he’s had a chance to practice.

Who’s your Super Bowl pick?
Posted (admin) in NFL Football on January-26-2010

Well, the stage is set, the players are positioned.  New Orleans is set to play the Indianapolis Colts, the two teams that went the longest with unbeaten streaks this regular season.  Who’s your pick?  Do you root for the sentimental favorite New Orleans, still recovering from the effect of Katrina, or do you want the Colts, who run with the efficiency of the Patriots but have more character?

Well, here’s an article that discusses the past football weekend and offers some advice for choosing your rooting interest for the Super Bowl.  Read TMQ’s article here.

Conan O’Brien – Class Act
Posted (admin) in Television, comedy on January-25-2010

Well, I watched the final Tonight Show with Conan, and I must say I sam impressed with how he carried himself that night.  He came out and made his cracks against NBC, justifiably so, and went through his show like normal.  What impressed me most was his farewell. He was thankful to NBC for all of his opportunities even though he acknowledged they were parting due to differences.  He then thanked his fans for their support and you could see the emotion starting to get to him.  But I loved the message to the young people about cynicism and the lack of anything positive that comes from it.  If anyone had a right to be cynical, it was Conan, but he was there expressing his appreciation for everything and saying this is the best way to handle adversity.

Nice job, Conan.  We’ll see you in the future.  I know we will.

So long Conan the Entertainer (for now)
Posted (admin) in Being a dude, comedy on January-21-2010

Well, after many days of wailing and gnashing of teeth, NBC and Conan O’Brien have agreed to a deal that will end his tenure on the Tonight Show after 7 months.  This will allow Jay Leno to resume the hosting role.  I just think it’s incredibly tacky for NBC to do this since they announced Conan as the replacement host way back in 2004, then they let him go after less than a year.  I always thought Conan was funny and any transition like this takes time.  Boo NBC!

Fator vs. Dunham
Posted (admin) in Being a dude, Celebrity, comedy on January-20-2010

I’ve always found vetriloquists to be entertaining, and right now there are two big names in comedy whose act centers on ventriloquism.  Jeff Dunham has become a household name with his friends Walter, Peanut, Achmed, and others.  He’s got 3 concert DVDs and a Comedy Central show that lasted one season.  If no one else came along, you could probably make a case for him being the most successful ventriloquist of all time.  But there seems to be a contender.  His name is Terry Fator.

Fator just recently broke into the scene when he was on the second season of “America’s Got Talent.”  I don’t watch too much reality TV, so the way I found out about him was by stumbling onto his recent DVD.  To put it mildly, I was blown away.  Fator’s show is more singing classic songs while impersonating the original artist.

Each has their strong and weak points when compared to the other.  Fator’s ability to sing is impressive, his ability to impersonate the original artists is incredible, and coupled with his ability to do that as a ventriloquist puts him into that category of “Are you kidding me?”  Dunham does mostly stand-up comedy with his characters, which is what make me laugh to the point of tears when I watch him.  Fator’s comedy is much lighter and does make me laugh but it’s there as more of a segue for the songs.

So, in a head to head, who would win?

Gotta get new shades
Posted (admin) in Being a dude on January-19-2010

My last pair of sunglasses are lost, somewhere in the Bermuda triangle that is my house. And with the sun shining on the snow around us, it makes for some very bright days. So I’m looking at getting a pair of polarized sunglasses and putting a tracking chip on them somehow.  Cause if I get a good pair of sunglasses, I don’t want to be losing them anytime soon.

NFL Playoffs, Week 2
Posted (admin) in NFL Football on January-18-2010

Well, I checked my playoff bracket to see how I fared during the second week. I somehow got the matchups mised up for the divisional playoffs. I realized my goof when my one matchup both won their respective games. So, my bracket is officially a bust.

Dances with Smurfs
Posted (admin) in Movies on January-15-2010

I went and saw the movie Avatar last night. And from the title of this post, I think you can guess my feelings on it. James Cameron is not a very subtle storyteller. Maybe he should go back to making Titanic movies.

TMQ rocks
Posted (admin) in NFL Football on January-13-2010

When football is in season, there is one columnist I love reading.  Gregg Easterbrook, also known as the Tuesday Morning Quarterback, write for Page 2 on ESPN.com.  He recaps the wee’s games and offers insight into why certain teams seem to be flourishing while others are floundering.  What I really love are his tangent sections.  Every once in a while, he’ll comment on current affairs, astro-physical news, or entertainment in general.  He’s a great writer, intelligent, witty, and just fun to read.

Don’t believe me?  Check out his latest column here.
