I saw the replay of the speed skater disqualification from the marathon event.  If you didn’t see it, basically, the skater’s coach told him to change lanes, the skater complied, which led to a rule violation and a disqualification.  Now, that’s bad enough, but when you add the fact that this particular skater was favored to win the gold, had it locked up, and lost it because of his coach’s error, that makes it even worse.  Ouch!

Ok, this was real fun to see, especially if you’re a fan of the 007 series. Fox News, in a nod to Conan O’Brien, mashed celebrity and politicin photos to see what they would look like as one person. Some had some comical results, but the coolest one was the Bond montage. They took different actos who have played the title role and meshed them into the ultimate 007. The fun part is in figuring out who they used. There have been so many, I don’t think they were able to use a feature from every actor.

I watched the Skeleton Friday night for the first time and I had one reaction: ARE YOU SERIOUS? While the luge is bad enough, and the tragedy at the beginning of the games should attest to the events inherent danger, the skeleton is worse. Men and women train to go head first down a luge run on a sled that lies underneath them and the only methods of turning are their legs and body weight. This is a disaster waiting to happen that even hurts to watch.

I’m not a big fan of figure skating, but this is worth mentioning. Evan Lyseck became the first American male to win the gold since Brian Boitano in 1988.  That’s over 20 years since the US took the gold in Mens figure skating.  Congratulation need to got out to Evan, especially since Yevgeny Plushenko came out of retirement to win a second straight gold. Get Evan a pair of men’s sunglasses cause his future looks real bright.

There’s a story ay MSNBC that Conan O’Brien could possibly end up hosting a late night talk show over at Fox.  The story’s author, Oscar Dahl, offers his opinion and that is for Conan to stay away from Fox.  While Foix is not the best location for late night talk shows, Chevy Chase’s infamous endeavor readily comes to mind, I think Fox is a perfect fit.  Conan has that silly sense of juvenile humor that seems to play well over with the Fox demographic.  What O’Brien has in his favor that other talk show hosts dont have is experience. Chase had never done anything like this, so his attempts at conversation felt forced and unnatural.  Conan on the other hand has had a talk show for years, he’s got his wisdom working the scene.  I think Fox would be a perfect fit for him.

After another day of competition, USA remains in the medal lead with one more gold and one more bronze medal added to the total. Wescott took the gold in the mens snowboarding event while Bode miller captured the bronze in the mens downhill. Tonight are the womens snowboarding, biatholon and 500m speed skating while the men have their 12.5 kbiatholon tonight.  Should be fun.

Despite the tragedy of the luger from Georgia, the Olympics have continued with great events and competition. And as of right now, the US leads the medal total with 6 while Germany is next with 4. We have 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Hopefully, there’s more to come.

The Winter Olympics begin tonight in Vancouver. The nice thing is that we won’t have to avoid the news to see who won before watching the games on TV. What do you plan to watch? I’ve always been partial to hockey, skiing, and the bobsled. I always enjoy watching events in those general categories. I just don’t like any straight ice skating events, including the speed skating. What do you plan to watch?

For Valentine’s Day, my wife spilled the beans and told me what she’s getting me. (OK, I stumbled upon it by accident) She’s got me a pair of sunglasses like the ones worn by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones from the movie Men in Black. She knows that’s my favorite movie. Love ya’ babe.

Well, along with the game, a lot of attention goes to the commercials during the Super Bowl. Everyone has their favorite, and I think mine has to be this one.

Gotta love a kid who loves him momma and his Doritos that much.
