Manny to Chicago

I’m not sure how to feel about this one. Manny Ramirez has quite a reputation as a slugger. He also has a reputation as a bit of a prima donna. I hope that we get more of the former and little to non of the latter. Ozzie provides enough character for the whole team, he doesn’t need Manny fodder.

If you know what I’m talking about with this title, then you are a fan of video games and video game news. It was 5 years ago that the “hot coffee” code was discovered in Grand Theft Auto. I remember all the controversy it created back then, and it seems to have died down a little. Yes, there is still content of a fairly adult nature, but some of it actually has an air of being mature about it. 1up.com offers an insightful look into the fallout from 2005.

10 day traffic jam

That is not a typo either. There is a traffic jam in northern China so bad that it it taking commuters 10 days to get through it. And I thought I had it bad when road construction near my home added about 5-10 minutes to my trip. I will never complain about my traffic issues again.

Hurricane behavior

I have a hard time believing this one. Some scientists claim to have research that states that hurricanes are actually attracted in some way to cities and other land with rough formations. I’m sure the science behind it is very complex, but if this is true, then the same places would be hit year after year, don’t you think?

Best Mob game ever

What are some of the best games that use the mob or mafia for their inspiration? Here are some of my selections and why.

Good - Godfather the Game – EA went to the trouble to create an open world where you work your way through the plot and ranks of Francis Ford Coppola’s version of New York.
Bad – Mafia Wars – This Facebook social game is nothing more than a point and click exercise in tedium that offers nothing more than the occasional graphic change. That doesn’t mean I don’t play it still
Ugly - Mob Wars – This Mafia Wars rip-off on Facebook offers nothing new and even more rudimentary graphics.

So, even though I listed it as good, the best mob game I ever played would have to be the Godfather.

Fantasy Football

I’m not a huge fan of football, but I do enjoy watching the occasional game. As a result, I’ve heard of but never thought to get into fantasy football. And since no one ever took me aside to explain ti to me, I decided to do some research and see if I could find some easy instructions for someone with no experience.

I knew this was coming, but there was a small part of me that was hoping they would find a way to work it out. I’m not saying Tiger should be excused or that Elin should have outright stayed, but when something like this happens, it’s just sad to watch it all fall apart.

9/11 churches

I find this a little interesting. There was a Greek Orthodox church destroyed in the terrorist attacks on 9/11 that city officials recently announced would not be rebuilt. Now, here’s the interesting correlation. There’s a Muslim mosque that is in debate, but the church is rejected outright. If we’re going to be fair, then dismiss all the proposals like this or let them all enter into a debate.

Jaws 2

My wife saw her first Jaws movie last night. She’s never seen the original Jaws, but I’ve seen them all, so I knew what to expect from this first sequel. I used that to my advantage. When the shark was getting ready to make a surprise appearance, I made it a point to have my arm around her and squeeze when the shark appeared. The screams she let out were hilarious.
