I completely forgot why I look forward to football season. It’s not to watch my home team, the Bears to look to have much anyway. No, the reason I look forward to football season can be summed up in 3 letters: TMQ. This guy makes recapping the week’s football action fun and informative.

Brett Favre, you gotta know when to fold’em, meaning walk away. Favre shared with USA Today that he feels he could play until he’s 50. Now, he might be able to play until then, but will he be any good or any kind of difference maker for the team he’s on? I think we all need to take a page from Kenny Rogers’ song “Know when to walk away, and know when to run.” In the case of Favre, he may wait until he can only limp.

Someone decided to have a Darth Vader helmet decorating expo, asking for people to redesign the iconic helmet. There was one who made the look even more menacing with a “Pinhead” inspired design. But, since I come from Illinois and consider Chicago to be my playground, I have to nominate this one as my favorite. Someone took a Bears football helmet and added the rear Vader flap.  This makes me laugh!

This was a great game last night. I can’t even begin to list all the things the Saints did that impressed me. The onside kick to start the second half was pure genius. It was so unexepected and executed perfectly. Or how about that barrel roll reception to get the two point conversion late in the game? Or the one interception that came just at the right moment? This Super Bowl had highlights a plenty. These were the two last undefeated teams late in the season. This was a great foorball year.

Well, I checked my playoff bracket to see how I fared during the second week. I somehow got the matchups mised up for the divisional playoffs. I realized my goof when my one matchup both won their respective games. So, my bracket is officially a bust.

When football is in season, there is one columnist I love reading.  Gregg Easterbrook, also known as the Tuesday Morning Quarterback, write for Page 2 on ESPN.com.  He recaps the wee’s games and offers insight into why certain teams seem to be flourishing while others are floundering.  What I really love are his tangent sections.  Every once in a while, he’ll comment on current affairs, astro-physical news, or entertainment in general.  He’s a great writer, intelligent, witty, and just fun to read.

Well, after the first weekend of Wildcard playoffs in the NFL, I have to admit my staggering ability to pick the wrong team.  I went 1-3 in picking the winning team; the only one I got right was Jets-Bengals.  My bracket isn’t busted, but it’s pretty close, especially if I have another weekend like this last one.

Dont’ forget: the BCS title game is tonight between the Crimson Tide of Alabama and the Texas Longhorns in the Rose Bowl.  Both teams are unbeaten and feature deep roster of talented players.  This should be a great game.  Don’t miss it; tonight at 8:00 EST.

What a game. What an upset. A fake punt on 4th and 9 that leads to the winning touchdown?  Wow, that was fun to watch.
